French Door Refrigerator, Ice/Water - Stainless Steel (Tools & Home Improvement) The fridge is nice over all lots of shelves to adjust etc. After about 8 months in I started to hear a knocking noise sometimes late at night coming from the fridge. Diagnosed the ice maker in the top left gets jammed up and tried to keep making ice it will not shut off so the gears that turn the ice into the bin just grind away. This is going on for about 5 months now and sometimes its once a week and lately its every day sometimes twice a day. I am in contact with GE to fix but other reviews many people were told it was normal and there was no fix. Just a fair warning if you are going to drop over $2k on a fridge I would make sure they have this issue fixed. If you look around on the Net its a very common problem with this fridge with a lot of very frustrated users and customer service techs trying to tell me its normal for my fridge to sound like someone is knocking on the door for 1 hour straight at all hours of the day and night which is unacceptable. 14 of 15 people found the following review helpful: Poor Customer Service from GE, By This review is from: GE Profile : PFSS6PKXSS 36 25.5 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator, Ice/Water - Stainless Steel (Tools & Home Improvement) I purchased an expensive GE Profile French Door Refrigerator on 4/24/10. It was delivered on 4/26/10. First, I plugged the unit in and it failed to cool. I went through all the troubleshooting tips in the manual without any luck. After dialing 5 different phone numbers, I was able to speak to a GE representative. The representative walked me through the process of turning the unit on. I asked them why this information was not in the user manual...they didn't know. Immediately after the unit started to cool, I heard very noticeable noise coming from it. I called the GE service number, and they sent out their repair person. The repair person told my wife that there was nothing wrong with the unit. I knew better, so I made them come out again and stayed home from work to be there. The repairman agreed that there was something wrong. He opened up the back of the unit and said he fixed it. The unit is still not fixed properly. I talked to GE Customer Service Representatives... French Door Refrigerator, Ice/Water - Stainless Steel (Tools & Home Improvement) I have owned (and still own) several GE refrigerators. This is an assessment of all of them: never, never buy a GE refrigerator with a built-in ice-maker. The ice-makers have been included for decades, and GE still cannot make one which is reliable. Ask any repairman: the ice-maker is by far the commonest source of problems, especially the ones with a feed through the door. The ice-maker requires a separate water line; it is noisy; and when the tray is removed, it may take hours to get it back into place. The ice itself lies open to the atmosphere of the fridge, and picks up foul tastes. The system wastes energy. When kids use it, ice ends up on the floor, damaging the wood and causing a hazard. The little flap at the top of the dispenser sometimes does not close, and then ices up. The whole ice-maker and ice-dispenser is a disaster. It shows how engineers sometimes can design something which must have worked in their labs, but does not work under actual,... Read more |
